🌙MOONSHOT🌙 GLASSYFIT CUSHION REVIEW

KATHERINE SPOWART on JUNE 30, 2020

I have to preface this review by saying that cushion makeup has a specific time and place. Cushion foundations/BB creams are NOT what you’re looking for if you want full coverage glam. For me, cushions are the perfect option for casual, easy, daily makeup, so that’s how I judge any cushion product that I try and test. They give more of a subtle, glowy option that’s very much in line with Korean-style makeup. Moonshot is a brand that I have plenty of experience with and I’ve generally been a big fan of their Korean beauty products for quite some time. They’re not mainstream in the international market and generally cater to the Korean customer-base. Today I’m reviewing one of their newest cushions, the Glassyfit Cushion. Let’s get into it!

PRODUCT DETAILS

Moonshot describes this cushion as “high coverage but luminous finish”. It’s supposed to provide “glass-like skin” and is most suited for dry skin during fall/winter. Sounds like my cup of tea! The cushion also provides SPF 50+ PA++++ protection, although this should always be a form of secondary protection and not in place of a sun cream. The essence within the makeup’s formula is supposed to keep the skin hydrated and dewy.

When you purchase the product, it comes with the case and one cushion fill. This is quite unusual, as most cushions come with a refill. The shades available are 101, 201 and 301. They are all pale-medium tones and not suitable for darker skin tones. Again, this falls in line with Korea’s typical but limited makeup options, which is not suitable for an international consumer base with a wider range of skin tones. If they were to more actively expand into international markets, I would definitely expect a shade expansion.

Ingredients (as per Moonshot):

Water, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Cyclopentasiloxane, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Diphenylsiloxy Phenyl Trimethicone, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Lauryl PEG-10 Tris(Trimethylsiloxy)silylethyl Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Butyloctyl Salicylate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Niacinamide, Zinc Oxide (CI 77947), 1,2-Hexanediol, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Methyl Hydrogenated Rosinate, Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Disteardimonium Hectorite, Isododecane, Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), PEG-30 Dipolyhydroxystearate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Magnesium Sulfate, Propylene Glycol Dibenzoate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Polypropylsilsesquioxane, Stearic Acid, Ethylhexyl Hydroxystearate, Glyceryl Caprylate, Alumina, Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Aluminum Hydroxide, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Fragrance(Parfum), Ethylhexylglycerin, Glucose, Centella Asiatica Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Chlorella Vulgaris Extract, Silica, Fructooligosaccharides, Fructose, Sodium Hyaluronate, Dimethicone, Adenosine, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Amethyst Powder, Diamond powder, Ruby Powder, Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Xylitol, Glycine, Serine, Glutamic Acid, Aspartic Acid, Leucine, Alanine, Lysine, Arginine, Tyrosine, Phenylalanine, Proline, Threonine, Valine, Isoleucine, Histidine, Cysteine, Methionine.

PACKAGING & PUFF

The packaging is beautiful. It’s a simplistic compact with a holographic purple design. I really like it! Cushion foundations are so handy for keeping in a purse or in your work desk for freshening up throughout the day.

What stands out the most is the shape of the puff. It’s pointed tip and angular edges are ideal for easy application around the contours of the face and smaller, more difficult places like under the eyes, and this makes a big difference in getting full coverage. I find this to be a superior shape to the generic round puff that’s seen with so many other brands’ cushions! If I’m doing a super light makeup day, I’ve enjoyed simply applying this cushion under my eyes and the angled puff makes it extremely easy to do so.

COVERAGE

The coverage is ok. Yes, just like I said – ok. As I mentioned in my introduction, I never expect cushions to provide the level of coverage that a high-coverage foundation can. However, considering Moonshot had rated the coverage of this cushion as 4.5/5, I did expect a little more full coverage. I found that this cushion covered my redness and pimples to some extent while giving me a nice even base. It did not create a flawless, airbrushed complexion. I would definitely still need a high coverage concealer to complement the cushion, and would not apply without this combination. I was admittedly somewhat disappointed by the coverage level!

FINISH

The finish is most certainly “glassy”. It’s not matte, it’s not shiny but rather gives a soft, radiance to the skin that I really appreciate. It’s exactly the kind of finish that I’m always looking for and perfectly suits the daily glow I strive to achieve. Throughout the day the finish does not thankfully become overly shiny or oily, which can often happen with a dewy-focused product.

My only issue with this finish is the transfer. Because the product does not necessarily adhere to the skin because of that dewiness, I find that the makeup transfers extremely easily. I have to set my skin with powder if I want to avoid any smudging and transfer, so that diminishes the ‘glassy’ finish. I can see this type of finish reacting a little differently during fall/winter, as Moonshot markets the cushion for these exact seasons, but for the summertime I’m not convinced this is quite right for my skin and preferences.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall, I do rate this cushion quite highly. Firstly, the puff shape is much more intuitive for makeup application than a regular round puff. The coverage of the product is decent, the finish is very pretty, and it provides that “glassy skin” look the brand advertises. For my dry skin and particularly for fall/winter, this coverage style is exactly what I’m looking for.

My main issues are the transfer of the product and the lack of coverage compared to what is advertised. While the coverage is acceptable for my daytime makeup look, they advertise the product with 4.5/5 for coverage which I found to be a little misleading. The transfer issues create difficulty in the longevity of the product and make it less than ideal for summertime.

I would definitely say this is a good purchase for those looking for a general makeup option for fall and winter. Is it my number one base product? No. Is it a decent option for daily makeup? Yes!
