BLITHE PATTING SPLASH MASK REVIEW

ANNA BASCOM on JULY 4, 2019

The first time I ever saw someone dunk their face in a giant bowl of water was April 4, 2016. It was Morgan from The Beauty Breakdown, in which she said, “I just feel like this is a lot to handle for someone who doesn’t enjoy that drowning sensation.” She was reviewing a product that instructs the user to mix the product in the water then submerge their face in water repeatedly for 3 to 5 minutes.

A few years later, Pony, a Korean Makeup Artist, revealed in her Nighttime routine with Harper’s BAZAAR, that she adds green tea powder to a sink full of room temperature water to help detox her skin and provide it with antioxidants.

If you are like me, you may be wondering, “But, why?”

In the article, Splash Masks: Everything You Need to Know about the Latest K-Beauty Trend, Alica Yoon told Allure, “In Korean beauty tradition, people used to splash and pat water onto the face repeatedly to mechanically cleanse. Some Korean women pat and splash plain water onto their faces up to a hundred times each day to get the deepest clean possible—they swear by the process.”

But, let’s be real. This seems like a lot of effort and I don’t particularly like “drowning sensations” or the mess of splashing my face.

Enter the Blithe Soothing & Healing Green Tea Splash Mask which provides the option of simply pouring out the product on to the hands, patting it into wet skin, and then using water to splash, pat, and rinse.

OVERVIEW

BRAND: BLITHE
NAME: Soothing & Healing Green Tea Splash Mask.
PRICE: Jolse $29
CLAIMS: Soothes and calms irritated skin, retexturize the skin for a polished smooth radiant glow, and pore cleansing… all within 15-seconds.
BEST FOR: Normal, Combination Skin Types, or those types prone to blemishes and irritation

KEY INGREDIENTS

Lactic Acid: Helps to smooth the appearance of skin and aids in reducing the appearance of dark spots and acne scarring.
Salicylic Acid: Minimizes the signs of blemishes and helps skin appear more even.
Green Tea Extract: Soothes irritated skin.
Tea Tree Oil: Soothes blemishes and reduces shine and the appearance of pores.

FULL INGREDIENT LIST

Water, Lactic Acid, Vaccinium Myrtillus Fruit Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Acer Saccharum (Sugar Maple) Extract, Panthenol, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PEG-40 Hydrogenated castor oil, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Lactate, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Flower Extract, Dextrin, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Salicylic Acid.

PACKAGING

The product comes in plastic packaging with a screw top lip. I really wish it came in some kind of pump top as it’s a little bit difficult to pour out without wasting a bit of the product.

EXPERIENCE

The mask has a watery consistency and a tea tree smell. I consider myself a sensitive skin girl. One time I applied this on my dry skin and that did irritate my skin a bit. After splashing away, my skin completely calmed down. I highly recommend either diluting the product with water before applying to your skin or ensuring that your skin is wet before application.

I appreciated that there was no filminess to my skin that I can only describe as the feeling my skin has after using a sugar scrub.

However, I will have to warn that you should not use this with your usual exfoliating treatments (toners, scrubs, pads, acids..etc.). I experienced quite a bit of skin shedding (read as flaking skin) when I first started using this and a small break out on my chin and forehead that I attribute to my skin turning over and purging because of the Lactic Acid and Salicylic Acid.

OVERALL

I didn’t want to like it, but I actually do!

Here’s the deal. Do I think this is essential to your skincare routine? No, especially if you are already an active user of AHA and BHAs in your skincare routine.

But, does this product do what it claims without irritating the skin and all in 15 seconds? Sort of, yes. Like with any product formulated to “transform” your skin. Yes, the ingredients are delivered to your skin in 15-seconds, but you’ll find the results in a couple of weeks or even a few months of consistent, proper use. Like I mentioned, I noticed an almost immediate turnover in my skin and after two weeks, my skin is looking brighter and smoother.

Speaking of proper use, it’s my recommendation to not use this on a daily basis (maybe just 2 or 3 times a week) at night. Make sure you are getting enough water in your body, hydrating your skin properly, and, of course, using sunscreen on a daily basis.
