ETUDE HOUSE DOUBLE LASTING

 SERUM FOUNDATION REVIEW

The best K-beauty foundation?

KATHERINE SPOWART on SEPTEMBER 17, 2019

My experience with Korean foundations has not always been the best. I’ve found that they either lack coverage, don’t have the right undertone for me (either way too yellow or far too pink), or they just don’t last well throughout the day. BB creams? Korean brands excel at them. But the foundation market? There’s a lot more development needed. However, a couple of years ago, I bought the Etude House Double Lasting Foundation and was BLOWN away. I fell in love with the high coverage, matte but glowy finish, and the seriously long-lasting wear time. For the past few weeks, I’ve been trying out the Serum version of this foundation and today I’m going to give you a rundown of my thoughts. Let’s go.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

Name

- Double Lasting Serum Foundation

Amount

- 30g

Shades available

- 12 shades

Description

- This is a newer version of the well known Etude House Double Lasting Foundation. The difference with this product is the “serum”. This version is marketed as containing 61% moisturizing skincare ingredients such as panthenol, ceramide, and hyaluronic acid. I personally don’t invest too much in this- I don’t expect my makeup to perform as skincare because that’s what my skincare is for! However, I do expect that the foundation will be more glowy based on this claim.

It also claims to be 24 hour long-lasting. The original is fantastic for it’s wear time, so I would expect this to offer the same.

The final claim is high coverage and again, the original does provide really great coverage (particularly for a Korean product) and so I’d hope the same for this.

APPLICATION

I apply it with a beauty blender because I find this gives the most airbrushed finish. However, I do find that the foundation moves around a lot and it’s quite tricky to blend out all the creases and lines the liquid leaves. Once it’s done, I have to make sure not to touch it and some of my cream products aren’t applying too well over it because it disrupts the foundation. This is easily solved with my beauty blender but I felt like it was worth mentioning.

COVERAGE

The coverage is medium. It’s more than a lot of other Korean foundations, but definitely not as full as the non-serum version of this foundation. Paired with a good concealer, you’re able to achieve very decent overall coverage. I personally like this level of coverage for casual days and during the summer when I go for a more natural look.

Because of the liquidy formula and the “serum”-type formula, it doesn’t dry down for a few minutes, which means it’s easy to build layers without it caking up. Like I said though, it’s quite tricky to “smooth out”.

FINISH

The finish is glowy, as inferred by the name of the product as a serum foundation. I have been testing it during summer heat and humidity, but even in winter I feel like it’s going to give a very fresh, glowy finish. I actually really like the finish for daytime. I do need to powder around my nose and under my eyes to keep the foundation in place and looking the way I like, but I think the finish gives a very youthful, quite natural look. It is much more dewy than the non-serum version, which is semi- matte. Be aware that because of the finish, the product does transfer if you touch your face, as with most non-matte products.

WEAR

I was a little disappointed with the wear-time of this. Not because it’s particularly bad, but because its marketed as 24-hour. It’s not! It doesn’t stay full coverage but it also doesn’t completely disappear. Signs of my own skin like my freckles do start to show through. I actually quite like how it wears for daytime, although if I was looking for a long-lasting foundation, I’d go with the non-serum version. The non-serum version really does not budge for hours on end.

I think if you have dry skin, this wear would be better for you as it doesn’t dry out and it doesn’t cling to dry patches. If you’re more on the oily side however, you could end up looking a little shiny. I think how it wears on your skin will definitely depend on your skin-type.

OVERALL PERFORMANCE

Ultimately, I’m really enjoying this! It’s giving me the medium coverage I’m looking for on summer days and evenings, and still allows my skin to look somewhat natural. The glowiness is pretty and I appreciate that it doesn’t dry up and leave me with patchiness. My skin type is normal leaning dry, FYI.

The downside for me is how easily it transfers and shifts around which affects how long-lasting it is, although this is common for liquidy dewy formulas. It makes smooth application a little bit more difficult, and after applying cream contour or blush I do have to smooth it out again.

ETUDE HOUSE Double Lasting Serum Foundation SPF25 PA++ 30g

To compare this Serum version and the original, I think I prefer the original. This is only because I think it’s more standout of a product on the K-beauty scene for it’s full coverage and it also lasts much longer. Overall, both are good purchases and I will definitely continue to use both versions!

Spam By the facts I love this one, thanks for this review! Besides this fact I believe that any cream or oil should be compared correctly, I am not an expert but I know that most skin problems are caused because the creams used were not chosen correctly, as a student at the college of science I did a research on these creams, specifically I used https://graduateway.com/essay-type/comparative/ to compare these two and I decided that I still need this cream, in general I noticed that your line of creams is pretty good and I even started using them already for more than half a year and I must say that I haven't had any problems, but I would like to try something else, too bad that the assortment is pretty weak. What do you think about it? Because it seems to me that you should renew the collection.
